A Foodies’ Guide to Visiting Boston

The Iconic Boston Food

Clam Chowder is a New England staple that is a thick mix of cream, shellfish, and salt pork or bacon. Island Creek Oyster Bar serves its chowder with house-cured bacon and buttermilk biscuits. The chef at Puritan and Company adds mussels and herbs to give his chowder a special flavor.

The Yankee Pot Roast is a popular meal in New England homes. The dish contains cuts of beef roasted and tenderized along with many root vegetables. Durgin-Park has the pot roast made from scratch with mashed potatoes and butternut squash. Merchants Row serves its Yankee Pot Roast along with historic tales from the Revolutionary War.

The melted goodness of Lobster Mac n Cheese is a newer tradition in New England. At Outlook  Kitchen, the dish is stepped up with aged cheddar, smoked gouda, and cognac for a great flavor. At JM Curley, the Lobstah Mac contains lobster, cheese medley, scallions, tomatoes, and a panko crust that is scrumptious.

More Wonderful Food in Boston

Boston Baked Beans are the reason the city is nicknamed ‘Beantown’. The beans are slow baked in molasses and served in a small crock with bread on the side. State Street Provisions has their own spin on the traditional dish with chunks of braised pork belly added to the mix. Beantown Pub serves the classic Beantown Baked Beans along with beer and great cocktails.

Roast Beef Sandwich in Boston is packed with heaps of tasty roast beef. Cutty’s serves the meat-packed Roast Beef 1000, and Kelly’s Roast Beef serves the beef in thin slices on sesame seed rolls.

The Lobster Roll is another favorite among locals in Boston, where there is a debate on whether the lobster is mixed with mayonnaise or melted butter. Eventide has a sweet lobster roll served on a steamed bun, while Row 34 has Ethel’s creamy lobster roll  made with cold mayo.
