Now that the Canadian border has finally re-opened to Americans, many are looking north for their next adventure. There are many ways travelers can have a remarkable holiday in Canada. Our northern neighbor is full of stunning scenery, wildlife, tasty food, and fabulous adventures. Read on to plan one of these top Canadian adventures for 2022.

Explore the Badlands of Alberta

Travelers looking for the ultimate adventure escape should venture to Alberta. This region is where dinosaurs once roamed, and its full of incredible rock formations and fossil beds. Take a hike through Horseshoe Canyonand view these marvelous geographical formations. Afterward, you can learn even more with a visit to the Royal Tyrell Museum,  and learn all about the giant creatures that once called Alberta home. 

There are also many more adventures that you can have at Dinosaur Provincial Park. The park has many lodging options available including comfort camping at this UNESCO World Heritage Site. You can spend time biking, fishing, hiking, or take a paddle down the Red Deer River from a canoe or kayak. There are also many programs available at the park for all ages including guided hikes and other family and educational programs. 

Have a Foodie Road Trip on PEI

For those whose idea of an adventure is a unique culinary experience, visit Prince Edward Island. This island is full of French colonial, Celtic and Mi’ikmaq influences that are apparent in the island’s culture, including the culinary. The island is full of many quaint fishing villages that catch and serve up the best fish the Gulf of St. Lawrence has to offer. In Charlottetown, stop by Claddagh Oyster House for amazing halibut. The Fireworks Feast is an authentic culinary adventure at The Inn at Bay Fortune. The adventure includes a local farm tour, an oyster hour then topped off with a multicourse feast.

PEI (as the locals call it) can be explored via rental car in a span of about five hours, which makes it a great destination for a day trip or weekend retreat. You can jump in your car and visit Charlottetown, visit the lovely Green Gables Shore, or see the natural beauty along the North Cape Coastal Drive. The island is also an awesome outdoor playground with many things to do including mountain biking, water sports, horseback riding, hiking trails, and much more. 

Ride the Rails through the Canadian Rockies

Train travel has gotten a new resurgence post pandemic, and the Canadian Rockies make for a spectacular rail adventure. The Rocky Mountaineer travels from British Columbia to Alberta and runs from mid-April to mid-October every year. As you travel on this train you will be entertained by the hosts’ storytelling, the most spectacular views, as well as chef prepared meals and premium wines. 

You can also ride the rails all across the country from Halifax to Vancouver and marvel at the changing landscape from your window. Imagine sitting from the comfort of your own private room, sipping wine, and taking in the amazing views. 

Marvel at the Northern Lights

A glimpse of famous Northern Lights is on many adventure travelers’ bucket lists. Yellowknife, located in the Northwest Territories, is one of the best places to view this phenomenon. The Aurora occurs approximately 200 times per year, and locals cry, ‘the lights are out!’. Then, the tourists flock to see this amazing natural light show with cameras in hand. 

The colors of the Northern Lights are different here than any other place on the planet. The intense hues of green light that look like fire and fog in the sky.  Jasper National Park is one of the world’s largest dark sky preserves, which makes it another wonderful place to see the lights.

Reach New Heights in Toronto

The CN Tower in Toronto has recently reopened its observation levels for visitors. Guests can now book timed tickets to many experiences in the tower. You can now board the glass elevators and shoot 1,136 feet to the top. Once there you will get breathtaking views of Canada’s largest city.  

For those that like living on the edge, the thrilling Edgewalk attraction now has many bookings available. The Skypod will get you an additional 33 stories higher than the observation deck and features many interpretive exhibits. You can finish your day at the CN Tower with a fabulous meal and stunning view at 360 Restaurant
