During frustrating times for budget travelers, there is now some positive news! Las Vegas-based carrier Allegiant recently announced a significant increase in their bag policy. Known for being stingy, low-cost airlines have been laying down the law lately on personal items and carry-on bags. With some extra space, travelers can have less stress boarding their flight.
Where Allegiant Flies
Allegiant Air was founded in 1997 and specializes in affordable direct flights across the U.S., from charming small towns to sprawling metropolises like Los Angeles and New York. They even provide an easy gateway into neighboring Canada and Mexico by flying to border towns in the North and South.
To the North, passengers can fly into Bellingham, WA or Plattsburgh, NY to cross into Canada and easily explore the beautiful cities of Vancouver or Montreal.
To the South, Allegiant has routes that go to San Diego, CA, El Paso, TX, and McAllen, TX, where passengers can make a short trip into Mexico. Whether it’s Tijuana or Monterrey, Allegiant provides an easy gateway into these cultural destinations.
Allegiant also offers routes going to multiple sunny destinations, including its hub, Las Vegas. Hence the sunny logo on their new fleet of planes. Striving to provide great service with the customer’s wallet in mind, there are plenty of awesome deals to browse through. In Florida alone, there are 10 destinations for an affordable getaway:
- Destin
- Key West
- Orlando
- Tampa
- Sarasota
- Fort Myers
- Fort Lauderdale
- West Palm Beach
- Melbourne
- Jacksonville
Right now, Allegiant is offering a flash sale for 48 hours with fares up to 25 percent off all their destinations! The easiest way to access this sale is by visiting their official website or app.

Wherever Allegiant’s jet setters decide to go, they will have some more luggage space at less cost. Unlike Allegiant’s direct competitors, such as Spirit and Frontier, Allegiant is offering up to a 25% increase in their baggage allowance. These new rules are set to begin on March 1, 2023.
As it stands with all domestic carriers, a personal item is expected to fit under the seat in front of you. While that still applies with Allegiant, they will be implementing a 20-25 percent increase in size. To combat travelers’ frustrations and embrace new trends, Allegiant understands many bags are now hard cases, making it difficult to meet current luggage requirements.
Personal items such as book bags, laptops, purses, and knapsacks may now be no more than 8 inches by 14 inches by 18 inches.
Carry-on bags will see a 25 percent increase from what has been the norm. Come March, the new dimensions are 22 inches by 16 inches by 10 inches.
Checked bags will no longer be limited to 40 pounds. Allegiant flyers will have to option to bring up to 4 checked bags, each with a new weight limit of 50 pounds. Fees will apply for this option as well as oversized bags not meeting the personal item and carry-on criteria.
It is recommended to go online to Allegiant’s handy baggage fee calculator, so there are no surprises at the airport during the check-in process, like in the unfortunate incident below.
@lisabuyz Our bag was over WEIGHT, we were more than happy to pay the $50 fee for it. Sherri told us because of “the tallness” (which can be heard in the video) she was charging an additional over SIZE fee of $75, that’s $125 total to check our bag..This is at ticketing not the gate. Per @Allegiant Airlines baggage guidelines our bag is not over SIZED at 31.5 X 19.5 x 11 or 62 linear inches. Any bag exceeding 80 linear inches is considered over SIZED. Posting again so you guys can see how she’s so mad she’s SHAKING! I even had an out of state stranger message me that their wife had a similar experience with Sherri! How is this woman getting away with this?! #fyp #strongarm #evilliveshere #badcustomerservice #nottherealslimshady #allegiantair #unbelievable @BB #foryoupage ♬ original sound – Lbuyz
