@Paul Watson, Very valid points you have made there. The snobbery of the exclusive brigade is tedious in the extreme.

“Sarajevo and its inhabitants exist only for me, so I can impress dinner party guests with my edgy insider knowledge. No commoners, please… except those who serve me during my globe trotting.”

@Kay,
Budget carriers bring tourists, tourists spend money providing local jobs, everyone becomes more prosperous. Don’t be so narrow minded, it’s about the local people and the country, not your Instagram page.

I have visited the city since the 70s and always find something new to lose oneself in. The music scene used to be its jewel in the crown, now short tracked to net spaces and less live. But there’s always something somewhere. It is a tragedy that such welcoming people have been so mistreated by their unwelcoming neighbours.

(I just hope it doesn’t turn into a budget-carrier ruined destination like so many others.) I wanted to add that it is an easy and lovely journey from the coast of Croatia, near Dubrovnik, up via Mostar to Sarajevo and with lots of short stops along the way, like Pocitelj and Blagaj (both near Mostar and included in any day’s drive from Dubrovnik, Funky Tours can arrange). I am interested though in how you got a cheap flight back from SJJ, because airfare is usually the most expensive part of a visit there; once you are there it is very affordable, so I am commenting on this in hopes that airfare quotes won’t dissuade people. My favorite time to go is fall.
