Puducherry, India

Why not visit a truly unique place with a blend of multiple cultures? Puducherry (or Pondicherry) is a beachside city away from the hustle and bustle of Mumbai and New Delhi.

French and Indian cultures are a staple in this charming, quaint town. Solo travelers will find themselves in awe walking the streets along colonial-era buildings.

Beaches here are highly underrated and a big draw to those who know they exist. Solo trippers who are into yoga and meditation should look no further as the town welcomes those looking to better their mind, body, and soul.

This town is an amazing place to experience French cuisine and authentic cafes without stepping foot in France. The average cost of a cappuccino is $1.75, according to Numbeo.

Santa Ana, El Salvador

The President of El Salvador has taken controversial steps to lower the crime rate to combat its negative reparation in mainstream news.

The U.S. still classifies this Central American nation as Level 3 with a “Reconsider Travel” advisory.

Despite that warning, many solo travelers come to El Salvador for its enriching culture, phenomenal cuisine, and to experience nature, whether surfing or hiking.

Santa Ana, in particular, is known to be the safest city in the country, and residents are proud of this fact.

Home to extremely affordable pupusas that will leave your mouth drooling for more, low-priced accommodations, easy access to charming small towns, and the scenic Santa Ana Volcano, this city should be on your radar.

Koprivshtitsa, Bulgaria

Bulgaria has become more popular for travelers as of late, especially for digital nomads. The traveling on their own in this part of the world may have passed through Sofia, the largest city in Bulgaria.

However, it’s this small town among the Sredna Gora mountains that suits solo travelers. Every home in Koprivshtitsa is a different color among other eye-catching attractions, such as the charming cobblestone streets of the Old Town district.

A visit here will make you feel like you’re in a storybook while sticking to a tight budget.

Nicaragua is no stranger to solo travelers, as many often make their way to the lovely town of Granada. However, this stunning island is just as worthy of visiting, maybe even more.

Omatepe offers comfortable hostels and many activities to explore its stunning nature, including sunsets overlooking vast volcanoes.

Hiking and swimming are also very popular here. And, of course, it’s always fun to chase waterfalls.

Puducherry's French quarter looks charming if you're looking up, but look at the street and it's a different story. Typically India, if that's your thing.

Why are you recommending Iman to visit????? Their stance on gay rights is disgusting! Get with it!!!!!

@Patrick Leary, are you thinking of Iran? While as a Muslim country it is criminalized, Oman is far from the worst for gay rights. However you may be executed in Iran. Also in nearby Qatar. Homosexuality is also illegal in UAE. As in Dubai.I know that's a major tourist destination. I thought Oman was amazing

@Patrick Leary, I would be more concerned about women having to wear hijabs.. what does it say about the men

Chevalier de Balibari

@Patrick Leary, It's OK if you're not a single gay traveler, which is 98% of travelers?

Sorry to say, but Salvador is not so off the grid as you may think. It is a beautiful town, has nice beaches and great attractions in its surroundings, but it is a big touristic place, maybe the second to Rio de Janeiro.
