There’s something very satisfying about taking an amazing trip and not worrying about whether you packed your passport or pay for expensive international flights.

Domestic tourism may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but perhaps that’s because you’re in need of some inspiration.
Maybe there’s an American destination you’ve always wanted to see but never have, or maybe there’s an underrated place you’ve never considered until now?
Destinations of both those kinds have been revealed by a new Visit the USA report, which has offered up five destinations on home turf that it says are ‘ones to watch in 2024’.
From historic cities to sun-drenched beach hideaways, there’s a little something for everyone right here:
Kansas City, Missouri
Kansas City is certainly having a moment in the limelight.
Recently named by Lonely Planet as one of the best cities to visit in 2024, it’s also quickly becoming one of the sporting centers of America, and not just because of Taylor Swift’s latest relationship status.
A brand-new soccer stadium, the CPKC, is opening in 2024, which claims to be the world’s first stadium that is purpose-built for a women’s professional sports team (Kansas City Current) and will seat more than 11,000 spectators.
Away from sport, Kansas City is known for being a great digital nomad destination, and will be a great place to visit in 2024 thanks to a major airport redevelopment and a host of new hotels and bars set to open down by its riverfront.
Santa Fe, New Mexico
Located in the budget-friendly state of New Mexico, Santa Fe is the perfect getaway for city lovers and outdoor enthusiasts alike.
In the city itself, you can lose yourself in one of many wellness resorts and let the healing powers of the land revitalize you.
For the more active, head out into the Sangre de Cristo Mountains and beyond to find amazing hiking and mountain biking trails.
Santa Fe is also home to several important museums and will host the annual Art + Sol winter festival in February.
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
As one of the top trending destinations in North America right now, there’s a lot to love about Philadelphia.
Located in one of the country’s safest states, Philadelphia is a city of great history and fantastic food – where else in America can relive the birth of the nation followed by sampling world-famous cheesesteaks?
Philadelphia’s food scene is more than just this iconic dish – the city is home to more than 300 bring-your-own-bottle restaurants, as well host to many internationally-renowned chefs.
The city’s appeal to travelers will only further increase in the fall of 2024 when the new Calder Gardens Museum is scheduled to open.
St Petersburg/Clearwater, Florida
Situated in a perfect little patch of Florida Gulf Coast heaven, St Petersburg and Clearwater are the ideal way to get a beach holiday fix right here at home.
If you’re seeking winter sun that doesn’t involve your passport, then this amazing stretch of coastline on the Gulf of Mexico is one of your best bets – with average temperatures regularly between 60 and 70F.
This entire region has been breaking tourism records over the past year, with more to come.
In 2024, St Petersburg will be a great visit for art enthusiasts, with the 10th anniversary of the SHINE Mural Festival set to take place in October and the newly launched Dali Alive 360 Dome at the Dali Museum.
Asheville, North Carolina
Head to the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains in North Carolina, and you’ll find a city that is making a case for being one of the trendiest destinations in America right now.
Asheville offers travelers a chance to sample great food, culture, music, and outdoor activities thanks to its vibrant city streets and unique location.
While the city is certainly a great place to head to for fans of camping, hiking, and other outdoor activities, the city also has some iconic sights to witness, including the Basilica of St. Lawrence, Harrah’s Cherokee Center, and the Flat Iron sculpture.
