Local publication, The CostaRican Times, just released what they believe are the top Costa Rican destinations for those who work from their laptops.
Key factors were affordability, connectivity, a thriving community of expats, and top attractions to keep busy.
These 5 destinations in Costa Rica were just ranked the best in the country for digital nomads:
#5 Puerto Viejo, Limon
This scenic beach town with crystal blue waters is what one would expect to see when visiting paradise.
Located on the pristine coastline not far north of Panama borders, digital nomads love calling this small town their temporary home.
Puerto Viejo offers accommodations friendly to remote workers and trendy cafes with Wi-Fi. National parks are within reasonable distance to enjoy downtime away from work in nature.
Just outside the city limits is a Jaguar rescue center to visit and appreciate one of the jungle’s most beautiful animals up close and personal.
#4 Playa Samara, Guanacaste
Digital nomads look at their careers as dream jobs because of the freedom of where they can go. At the top of the list has to be gorgeous beach towns.
Playa Samara is just that and more, with a lot to offer anyone wanting to call this place their home.

#3 Playa Hermosa, Guanacaste

#2 Santa Teresa, Guanacaste
Costa Rica as a whole is known for its laid-back, chill vibes. Santa Teresa is the same way in its own right in typical surfer community fashion.
Known for its friendly surfing scene and affordable rent, this place is perfect for digital nomads to get work done and go out and catch some waves.
Visitors will have access to speedy Wi-Fi and air-conditioned accommodations. The local reggae-style bars are a great way to finish off a hard day’s work.
#1 San Jose, Central Valley
Coming in at the number one spot is the capital city of San Jose. Although there have been security concerns, many reports of criminal activity have not affected tourists.
Digital nomads will thrive in Costa Rica’s largest city. Many use San Jose as a gateway into Costa Rican culture, but not necessarily as a home base.
However, for digital nomads, this city can be overlooked. San Jose has many of the modern conveniences that digital nomads would be interested in. Plus, it’s always easy to stay busy, whether with work or pleasure.
Visitors will find an array of museums, restaurants, and buzzing nightlife scenes that some other areas of Costa Rica just don’t have.
That’s why San Jose comes out on top.
