It’s hard to put it just a few words how terribly important it is to get travail insurance when traveling to Mexico or out of the Country! My sister recently traveled to Cancun and while getting Gelato she slipped on some that had spilled by someone else. She was completely sober. Her left knee hit the ground so hard it split right in two. The pain was so intense she passed out. It took the ambulance two hours to arrive
.. it was pure misery for her! She was finally taken to the hospital where neither the Dr nor the nurse spoke English. They had to use their phone to translate. It made the situation quite stressful
The hospital was , however clean. The staff were very curteous and helpful as tried to be helpful. She couldn’t be flown per her Drs at home because by now the bleeding was out of control. Everything had taken so long.. she had to have surgery in Mexico to stabilize her knee and then had it done again in america the proper way and to clean out the staph infection. She still doesnt have full movement in the knee. And is inderglung rehab to get movement.
*The main issue was prior to leaving Mexico hospital and also prior to taking the ambulance she had to pay CASH! They are out $90,000. Just from Mexico.not even counting the many billls from additional surgery’s here in Texas and continuing rehab. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼insurance is a must!!! When leaving the US, be prepared!

Revolut offers travel insurance as part of the premium upgrade package, which I think is €7/month. Has anyone actually used this?
