Travelers have wanted more since the pandemic, and we’re starting to see that shift happening faster as wellness destinations are becoming more popular. According to Hotels.com, “Wellness breaks have bounced back from 2021, with a more than 30% increase in 2022 demand. Almost half (46%) of global travelers are more open to wellness breaks than ever before, but the quirkier the stay, the better.”
This means 2023 will be the year of wellness, but different from what you think it is. Travelers are looking for something that makes them feel good and gives back. They want to avoid going to a destination and sitting there. They want to feel like they are a part of the destination in a way that gives back to the communities and leaves excellent memories for themselves or their family. Check out the top five wellness and healing destinations of 2023, and remember that healing can mean different things for different people, such as sitting by the beach or getting a skincare service.
Ibiza
Ibiza will always be known as the island of partying, and that’s not changing any time soon, but a few spots are becoming more calm and perfect for a wellness vacation. Take Six Senses Ibiza on the north side of the island. The hotel prides itself on wellness in terms of food and general ambiance. The menus here are all catered to a specific mood and mixed with popular Latin favorites, making eating something healthy vs. something delicious almost impossible to tell apart. The Beach Caves is a zero-waste, locally sourcing hip restaurant that captures the essence of old-school Ibiza and sustainability with pan-Latino dishes encompassing heritage and modernity.
They also have different programs that dig deeper than regular wellness initiatives. The Longevity with Rosebar wellness program is a combination of biohacking, personal training, and energy medicine that is supposed to increase energy levels and mental focus and reduce the effects of aging. This sort of therapy is becoming more popular on the island, and by coming here not to party, you’ll be able to see a different side.

Curacao
Curacao is known as one of the ABC islands in the Caribbean and has a long history of being a place of relaxation for Dutch travelers. Water sports here rival its island neighbor (Bonaire), and this is the type of place you can visit to get away. Wellness here means putting on some goggles and exploring the reefs nearby. This active health style works for travelers who prefer not to sit in place for too long. Properties like Coral Estate, Luxury Resort offer stays that include diving or snorkeling built-in. This allows travelers to go straight in to do water-based activities instead of being distracted by tourist traps.
Curacao is a beautiful island that beckons any traveler looking to swim away in the water. If dining is more your vibe, check out MosaCaña Bar & Kitchen. Mexican-inspired dishes blended with local favorites perfectly integrate into your wellness journey here. Another great spot is the beach lounge, Karakter. This place will provide Miami vibes in a calm, sophisticated way that allows you to have a cocktail without the distraction of overtly loud music or people.
New York
If you think New York is the last place you would want to be to start a wellness journey, then think again. New York City has some of the best rejuvenation centers in the western hemisphere, but it’s more for your skin than anything else. The city is known for having rows of skincare centers, and the Upper East Side is no exception.
This part of the city has more than ten skincare labs within a five-mile radius. Spots like SkinSpirit are perfect if wellness for you means getting a touch-up. This form of health digs skin deep, and what’s great is that they have options that cater to your needs. Not everyone wants filler or botox, and they understand that. They ensure they give you all the options, and then you decide. It could be the start of a new form of wellness for you.
Mexico
Mexico is another destination known more for tequila than relaxation, which is not entirely true. States like Jalisco are opening more to diverse travelers who want to have a good time but also want to destress. Resorts like Delta Hotels by Marriott Riviera Nayarit, An All-Inclusive Resort, are great because you get tons of relaxation amenities, but they are also all-inclusive. The main property sits on a very high hill giving each room an unobstructed tropical forest view with few neighbors. The hotel also has a recently created beach club that sinks deep into the wellness arena. This form of health and savings makes it easy for travelers to book their vacations.
Florida
If you’re a snowbird, you know Florida is a wellness area. Central and South Florida are great if you’re looking to get away. Central Florida locations like Lake Nona (and the Lake Nona Wave Hotel) are looking to push the boundaries of wellness into things that will affect the rest of your life. Programs at the Lake Nona Wave Hotel range from one that is supposed to relieve a person’s panic or anxiety attacks to a Chopra Mind-Body Spa that surpasses any regular hotel spa. The hotel has a partnership with the Inspired Performance Institute led by Dr. Don Wood, who works with you on easing any anxiety or panic conditions through mind training that can presumably change your life.
If you want to head down south, check out the Carillon Miami Wellness Resort. This Miami Beach wellness spot offers things like electronic sound baths and other forms of Miami-esque therapies. It’s a great alternative if your version of wellness means partying a little.
