The calendar will soon flip over to 2024, which means more exciting destinations for the new year. It’s not too late to plan your holiday and winter travels, but many are already looking beyond to next year.

Lonely Planet has already released their top destinations all across the globe for next year, with many of them close, and even in the United States.

The Philadelphia Museum of Art (PMoA) was initially chartered in 1876 for the Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia. The main museum building was completed in 1928 on Fairmount

Travel trends are different every year, yet travelers always want to know the next best place to visit. Some are right in our own backyard with no passport needed.

International trips are fun and all, but sometimes exploring America can be quite underrated.

Here is why this historic city was just ranked the best destination in America in 2024:

More Than Just A Foodie Destination

Many would agree Philadelphia is amongst the top destinations in the U.S. to chow down on some of the most savory food options.

We all know Philly is home to the borderline sinful Philly Cheesesteak. Locals watch from afar witnessing tourists come to neighboring Geno’s and Pat’s to decide for themselves who has the best cheesesteak.

However, many locals claim tourists are wasting their time with the city having so many other options. Plus, nearby states Delaware and New Jersey have steaked their claim as in the cheesesteak scene too.

But hey, this isn’t a cheesesteak article. It’s not even a food article. Philadelphia may be known as a top food city, but it offers so much more than pleasing your tastebuds.

Yes, come here to indulge, but don’t sell yourself short by only restaurant-hopping around town.

A Remarkable City Full Of History

Philadelphia is one of the most historic cities in the country. Without the city’s place in history, our country could look quite different today.

We may be on the cusp of 2024, but Philly will take you back in time through its monuments and world-class museums.

Ranging from the famous Liberty Bell to more pop culture influences, tourists will find themselves taking selfies either with dead presidents or Hollywood icons.

You never know who you may run into from fiction characters, such as Rocky Balboa, or sit on a bench with Benjamin Franklin.

The bottom line is this city is proud of its history, and you can learn more and more about the significance of Philadelphia’s role as you wander throughout town.

The City Of Brotherly Love

If anybody has heard anything about Philadelphians, it’s perhaps they can be brute, gruff, and well, not the friendliest.

Philly’s passion can be mistaken for rudeness, but that’s not necessarily true. How off-putting can locals be when they live in a city known as the “City of Brotherly Love”?

Locals consistently fill their teams’ arenas, whether it’s a good or bad season, because they love their city and want to be represented the right way.

In fact, if they weren’t so welcoming, there wouldn’t be such a mix of cultures that may be unknown to the ‘average Joe’.

For example, like New York, Vancouver, and San Francisco, did you know there is a bustling Chinatown in the heart of Philly?

Why Philly Over Other Cities In 2024?

Lonely Planet claims Philadelphia as one of only two U.S. cities worthy of ‘top destination’ recognition. Topping Kansas City, Philadelphia is the top U.S. destination for 2024. But why?

We all know foodies will rejoice whether indulging in cheesesteaks or hopping around Chinatown, but there is also one of the top food markets in the nation – the Southeast Asian Market – which reopens in the spring.

Others will love perusing through one of the largest public markets in America – the Reading Terminal Market – one of Philly’s most iconic landmarks.

The Northeast is home to amazing destinations, but 2024 is Philly’s turn to take the stage. Visitors will have no troubles getting around as it was recently voted one of the ‘most walkable cities’ in the country.

That is, if you can still walk after all the divine food you will indulge in. Those who love to appease their visual senses will be in one of the best cities for street art as well, plus the awe-inspiring architecture throughout the city, like the iconic City Hall.

Not to mention the oldest neighborhood in America. Elfreth’s Alley still holds up with its unique European-esque charm with touchstones from the city’s historic past.
