Central America is a great destination for digital nomads.

It’s a diverse region with a lot to offer no matter what you’re looking for. Many digital nomad hotspots in Central America are very affordable, and it’s a great location for remote workers from North America since there’s little to no difference in time zones.

These are the top four digital nomad hotspots in Central America for 2024:

1. Antigua, Guatemala

Antigua is one of the hottest destinations for digital nomads right now.

This trendy small city is known for its colorful colonial architecture, quaint cobblestone streets, historic churches, and jaw-dropping views of the volcanoes that surround the city.

Guatemala is surging in popularity with digital nomads, and Antigua is the best place to base yourself.

It’s located just one hour from the sprawling metropolis of Guatemala City, but it couldn’t feel more different. Antigua’s relaxed vibe and compact size make it perfect for digital nomads.

There are TONS of cafes, coffee shops, and coworking spaces where you can work on your laptop in Antigua, which also makes it ideal for digital nomads. And Antigua has a great climate, with spring-like weather much of the year.

2. San Juan Del Sur, Nicaragua

Another one of the best digital nomad hotspots in Central America is San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua. This is the perfect place to base yourself if you love the beach and partying.

San Juan del Sur is located on the Pacific Ocean, and it’s known for its excellent surfing.

Even if you’ve never surfed before, you can take lessons for beginners in your spare time (talk about a great work-life balance!) When you’re not working, you can also enjoy the fun nightlife of San Juan del Sur.

This beach town is also home to a growing community of digital nomads and remote workers, so you’ll be able to feel right at home.

3. Panama City, Panama

If you prefer the convenience and amenities of big city life, Panama City is the absolute best place to live in Central America.

This vibrant city is a major hub for flights, making it easy to explore all of Latin America. It’s also one of the most developed places in Central America.

Panama City is a city of contrasts, with the historic architecture of Casco Viejo and the glitzy high-rises along the waterfront existing side by side.

It’s a very dynamic city, with a lot of entrepreneurial action and digital nomads who call it home.

And if you ever need a break from the city, great beaches like Taboga Island are just a 20-minute boat ride away, or you can explore the stunning San Blas Islands a little further afield.

Even though Panama City is a bit pricier than the previous two destinations on this list, it’s still much more affordable than city life in the United States.

4. Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica

Finally, another trending digital nomad hotspot in Central America is Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica. This is another great place for all of the beach bums out there.

Located on Costa Rica’s less-developed Caribbean coast, Puerto Viejo is not as built-up or expensive as some of the more popular Pacific coast destinations. This beach town has a laidback, relaxed atmosphere and beautiful beaches.

It’s growing in popularity with digital nomads, so you will be able to find plenty of trendy cafes and coffee shops where you can get work done in between biking to the beach, surfing, or lying in a hammock under some palm trees.

Puerto Viejo was recently named one of the best digital nomad hotspots in Costa Rica.
