While there’s been a lot of talk on the upsurge of international travel, the truth of the matter is that U.S. travelers are still flocking to the country’s biggest hotspots in millions, and that doesn’t seem to be changing anytime soon.

Spanish travel company eDreams Odigeo just released its annual “Year in Travel” report, providing some valuable insight into the trends we can expect to see in 2024.

The comprehensive study revealed that there were five U.S. destinations that dominated the domestic travel industry in 2023 and are only expected to grow once the new year rolls in.

So, if you’re planning to explore the vast, diverse landscapes of North America in the months to come, these 5 cities should be on your must-see list.

5. Fort Lauderdale

Combining sun-soaked beaches and reasonable prices, Fort Lauderdale has quickly become one of America’s most coveted summer getaways.

However, though the palm-fringed shores are one of the main draws of this stunning Floridian city, the cultural, historical, and natural wonders of the region go well beyond that.

The Intracoastal Waterway provides the perfect opportunities for leisurely boat cruises, waterfront dining, and even maritime sports for those looking to get an adrenaline rush during their upcoming travels.

4. Atlanta

Georgia’s fascinating capital is probably best known for its rich history, including the fact that this is the place where Martin Luther King Jr. was born – so those looking to get some insight into the famed activist’s life or just the general history of the American nation during the 1960s will love the historic site named after the man himself.

In fact, few other places in the states manage to combine such a rich heritage with the kind of indulgent, soulful food that’s best experienced in places like Mary Mac’s Tea Room and The Colonnade.

3. New York

Most people in the world would be able to recognize New York just from its iconic skyline; however, America’s financial and cultural center has much more to offer than just the stunning views (which, by the way, are actually as good as they say).

Between the reopening of Broadway theaters, the pulsating energy of Times Square, and the cultural allure of the American Museum of Natural History, New York offers travelers the quintessential American experience, complete with a melting pot of cultures, stories, and cuisines.

If it’s your first time visiting New York and you’re not sure how to spend your limited time in the city, though, your best bet would be to get on one of the organized tours that take place all year long – though a bit cliché, and touristy, you’ll at least be sure that you’ll see the best of what New York has to offer.

Many of the tours you’ll come across are pretty well-rounded; their packages include motorcoach transportation, hotel accommodation, 5-6 meals, as well as complimentary snacks and trinkets, so the price is usually worth it.

2. Orlando

Most travelers, Americans included, simply see Orlando as the theme park capital of the U.S. – after all where else can you find Disney World, Universal, and Seaworld co-existing in harmony just a couple of miles away from each other?

However, those going to Orlando to experience the city beyond the theme park thrills will be delighted to hear that their itinerary will still be jam-packed.

Depending on your age or preferences, you can always get some Daytona International Speedway Tour tickets, take a boat tour of your choice, explore the Jororo Village, try out the Moana-inspired Journey of Water, or indulge in the newest sports-centric facility by Caribe Royale Orlando Resort.

1. Las Vegas

The fact that the Entertainment capital of the world is the proud holder of the top spot on today’s list should come as no surprise to most travelers, especially those who’ve seen firsthand just how magnetic the energy in the iconic Nevadan city can get.

The luxurious resorts, buzzing nightlife, and one-of-a-kind entertainment scene make tourists feel like they’ve left all their day-to-day stresses behind and are finally getting to live out their life-long fantasies – once a destination manages to achieve that. Is there really anything keeping visitors from boarding a plane?

Rock fans, in particular, are guaranteed to have a fantastic time in the city come 2024, since several classic acts will take the stage, including Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, Barry Manilow, and even the Rolling Stones (set to perform at Allegiant Stadium on May 11th).
