Are you looking for the cheapest international destinations to fly to this winter?
These are the perfect places to go for a warm and sunny getaway!
According to recent data from flight booking platform Skyscanner, these are the cheapest destinations abroad for American travelers to fly to based on the average cost of a round-trip plane ticket.
Keep in mind that this is the average flight price from all cities in the U.S., and your geographic location will have an influence over whether you can get a cheaper (or more expensive) flight.
For example, for travelers located on the East Coast, flights to Cancun will be cheaper, while for travelers on the West Coast, flights to Puerto Vallarta and San Jose del Cabo will be cheaper.
7. Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic: $460
One of the most affordable destinations to visit right now is Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Santo Domingo is one of the Dominican Republic’s three main international airports, and it’s located close to the historic capital city.
While most people visit the Dominican Republic for its affordable all-inclusive resorts, flying into the capital can save you money compared to flying into Punta Cana, which is where many resorts are.
Santo Domingo is one of the best Caribbean capitals, thanks to its blend of history, culture, a lively atmosphere, and beautiful colonial architecture, making it a great place to start or end your trip.
6. Puerto Vallarta, Mexico: $460
Another affordable getaway this winter is Puerto Vallarta. Located on the Pacific Coast of Mexico, Puerto Vallarta is having a record-breaking year for tourism.
Many travelers love Puerto Vallarta for a number of reasons: it has great beaches, there are tons of things to do, it’s LGBTQ-friendly, and it’s known as one of the top wellness destinations in Mexico.
5. Bogota, Colombia: $440
Bogota is a destination that always has a lot of cheap flights, making Colombia the most accessible South American destination from the United States. It’s also a very cheap place to travel once you arrive.
Although Colombia’s capital city Bogota is chilly during the winter, it’s a major transit hub for connecting to warmer, sunnier destinations in the country like Cartagena, Santa Marta, or Medellin.
4. San Jose Del Cabo, Mexico: $429
Cabo is one of the top destinations in Mexico. This popular Baja California Sur destination attracts travelers with its gorgeous beaches and jaw-dropping scenery.
Travelers from 23 cities across the United States can fly nonstop to San Jose del Cabo this winter, with many affordable flights on low-cost carriers.
3. Cancun, Mexico: $422
Another Mexican destination that is cheap to fly to is Cancun. Cancun is currently breaking tourism records this year as the most popular beach destination in the world.
It’s a highly accessible destination for American travelers, and Cancun is the gateway to other hotspots in Mexico, like Playa del Carmen, Tulum, and Cozumel.
2. Nassau, Bahamas: $347
If you’re dreaming of an island paradise, there are tons of really affordable flights to Nassau available from cities across the United States.
The Bahamas is one of the top international destinations of the year thanks to its proximity to the U.S., beautiful beaches, and a wide array of unique islands to visit.
1. San Juan, Puerto Rico: $295
Finally, the cheapest destination to fly to right now is San Juan, Puerto Rico. Puerto Rico is technically not an international destination since it’s a territory of the United States, but it’s located in the Caribbean and has its own distinctive culture.
Puerto Rico is known for having some of the best beaches in the Caribbean, which is one of the reasons it has become one of the hottest destinations of the year.
San Juan is also a great destination itself, with a mixture of colonial architecture, historic fortresses, picturesque streets, arts and culture, and nearby beaches.
