This fall and winter are the best times to plan a trip to a pair of popular South American countries.
If Argentina and Brazil have been on your bucket list, there’s no time like right now to travel to these two destinations.
These neighboring South American countries can easily be paired together for one epic trip.
Here’s what makes right now the best time to go to both places:
The Best Weather
If you’re looking for a warm-weather getaway this fall or winter, head to the Southern Hemisphere!
In both Argentina and Brazil, the seasons are inverted to the Northern Hemisphere, so September, October, and November are spring, and December, January, and February are summer.
Although some tropical destinations like Rio de Janeiro, Brazil are hot year-round, you can enjoy warm, sunny weather in seasonal destinations like Buenos Aires, Argentina beginning in October.
Additionally, the Patagonia region of Argentina is best visited from November through February for mild weather, hiking, and outdoor activities.
Affordability In Argentina
Argentina is currently more affordable than ever for foreign travelers due to the exchange rate and an ongoing financial crisis in the country.
The economic situation in Argentina means that there are several different exchange rates — and tourists can easily access preferential rates that more than double the value of their money.
The “blue dollar” exchange rate can be accessed by changing money on the street or using Western Union. Another option is paying with a Visa credit or debit card, which gives you access to the MEP rate, which is almost as good as the blue dollar rate.
There has never been a better time to enjoy tango on the streets of Buenos Aires, go wine tasting in the vineyards of Mendoza, hike in Patagonia, or see the majestic Iguazu Falls than right now.
In addition to being affordable, Argentina is also one of the safest countries in Latin America.
Visa-Free Entry To Brazil
Brazil has always been one of the more challenging countries to visit in South America because up until 2019, the country required American travelers (and Canadian travelers) to obtain a visa.
While this requirement went away in June 2019, making it easier for travelers to visit Brazil, the visa requirement is unfortunately coming back in 2024 and it will cost $160.
The good news is that this requirement has been delayed. It was originally set to return on October 1, 2023, but now it has been pushed to January 10, 2024.
This means that North American travelers have a few more months to visit Brazil without needing to apply for and pay for a travel visa. If you’ve dreamed about seeing the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio and hitting the city’s famous beaches or checking out the Brazil side of Iguazu Falls, now is your chance.
Beginning in 2024, it will be more difficult for North Americans to plan a trip to Brazil.
Visiting Argentina And Brazil
If you’re on a budget, sticking to just Argentina will save you money. Aside from the cost of flights, travel in Argentina is incredibly affordable right now.
Brazil, while more expensive, is still worth a visit, and it’s only going to get more expensive in 2024 when many travelers have to begin paying $160 for a visa again.
With just one week this fall or winter, the perfect Argentina and Brazil itinerary would include Buenos Aires, Iguazu Falls (Argentinian and Brazilian sides), and Rio de Janeiro.
If you have more time, you can add additional stops like Mendoza, Argentina’s wine country, or Florianopolis, an island paradise in Brazil.

Ashley for any foreign or interim Brazil now you do not need a US visa. The exception would be is if you have dual citizenship such as being married to in Brazilian citizen, you are than given a CPF number that you can use to get straight through, the airport
Ask for traveling between one South American country and another you do not need a passport or visa for any kind. This was the case when I flew into Brazil side of the Iguazu waterfalls and crossed over to Argentina on day one and on the second day and to Uruguay both times I did not need my passport mom, but I would strongly encourage you to be Iguazu falls on the border by Argentina Brazil. They are raising sight to see.

Just like in the United States, you will have crime wherever you have people . So of course, you have to be streetsmart in any country, including the United States 🇺🇸, as there are always people who will try to exploit you. I would recommend having a friend who lives in the country, and of course, learn the laws and language to protect yourself. But most of all be RESPECTFUL and know some Spanish and most people will be very friendly and try to help you.
Try to use a credit card that has no foreign transaction fees. My statements here are based on my five trips to Brazil and one trip into Argentina 🇦🇷 .

Argentina!?!? Are you serious right now! 50% Poverty Rate! And a very divided nation, how on Earth is this a country recommend. Uruguay, Chile, and Colombia are way much safer and have way more to see. Love Argentina, my South American primos, but even an Argentine will tell you to go somewhere else.

I just spent over a month in Argentina. I've traveled to almost every country in Latin America, and I felt the safest in Argentina. I don't agree that most Argentines would say their country is dangerous and to stay away — no one I know from Argentina feels that way at all.
