Most of us have dreamed of a European getaway since the first time we discovered our love of travel, and those lucky enough to check the high-ticket item off of their bucket list this year have a lot to consider when it comes to finding their destination of choice.
That’s why Allianz Partners USA recently released a report on the four destinations that are expected to trend among U.S. travelers in 2024.
These four countries are looking ahead at a year filled with exciting cultural and historical events that provide us with the best excuse to book those long-coveted tickets and finally explore that European allure.
France
While few need a specific reason to visit France, the most popular travel destination in the world, the fact that Paris is set to host the 2024 Olympics is more than enough to drive millions of excited tourists to the French capital.
That’s why, even though the country hasn’t quite managed to get back to its pre-pandemic glory just yet, it’s safe to assume that that’s all about to change come summer 2024.
Those who want to experience Paris, and France itself beyond the world-class sporting events can still make some time to enjoy the jaw-dropping views of the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre Museum, as well as the now partially-reconstructed Notre Dame.
Outside of the capital, you’ll want to dedicate a few days to exploring the nation’s picturesque countryside and inviting Riviera, especially if you happen to visit during the warm Olympic season.
After all, coming all the way over to France without experiencing the sun-soaked vineyards of Bordeaux or the lavender fields of Provence would be a huge missed opportunity.
Germany
Sporting events in Europe will be all the rage this year, with Germany hosting the long-awaited UEFA Euro 2024 Tournament.
The first match is set to take place on June 14th, so this summer will be one of the electrifying rivalries and unreal-looking goals – this means that those looking to escape the extreme seasonal heat have their plans already made for them.
Most German destinations boast the kind of mild, pleasant weather that we desperately seek during those scorching summer months.
What’s more, the country will never leave you bored.
Between the buzzing city scene of Berlin, the otherworldly beauty of the Bavarian Alps, and the trendy atmosphere of Munich, you’ll be left so in awe that the wishes for a beachy escape will become a mere afterthought.
Spain
Those who can’t do without a couple of sunbathing sessions this summer, however, might want to plan a quick stop in Spain, a country whose infectious atmosphere and gorgeous beaches actually live up to the hype.
Madrid and Barcelona, in particular, will continue to be the country’s biggest hotspots, and those who know what they’re looking for in their 2024 European getaway will have a pretty easy time deciding between the two.
Madrid is a haven for city trippers.
Those looking to take in the Spanish culture in its truest form and experience the region’s iconic cafe culture will have the time of their lives here.
Barcelona, on the other hand, boasts a more beachy, laid-back kind of allure that makes it the perfect city for travelers looking to take advantage of Spain’s golden sands and crystal-clear waters.
Though, if you’re splurging on a European getaway, you might as well make some extra room on your schedule and budget to visit both places – I guarantee it’ll be worth it.
Portugal
To say that Portugal has had a whirlwind of a year would be an understatement.
What was once one of Europe’s best-hidden gems has now become a place known by many as Europe’s trendiest, best-value destination, and the recently released Allianz report showed that this isn’t about to change anytime soon.
While there were many Portuguese cities that dominated travelers’ wish lists this past year, including Porto and Faro, it’s the capital that’s currently showing the highest, steadiest increases in booking traffic.
Lisbon, the vibrant city that famously overlooks the Tagus River is guaranteed to amaze you with its colorful neighborhoods, historic tram rides, and classic Fado music.
