5 Reasons Why Travelers Are Visiting This Cultural Asian Country In Record Numbers

With its diverse landscapes, fascinating history, and jaw-dropping sights, Asia is nothing short of a traveler’s paradise.

That’s why so many of its coveted hotspots have come out of 2023 setting brand new tourism records, and just a couple of days before the year ended, another country joined the record-breaking crowd.

Nestled in Southeast Asia, Vietnam is a country that has slowly but surely climbed onto the heights of international popularity.

This past December, it welcomed over 1.4 million international tourists, an unprecedented figure within a 31-day timeframe, as reported by the local General Statistics Office.

This number marks an 11.2% increase from the previous month (November) and a whopping 93.9% increase compared to December of 2022.

Here’s why so many travelers can’t seem to get enough of Vietnam:

Vietnam Is A Treasure Trove Of Historical Wonders

The draw of this gorgeous Southeast Asian country goes way beyond its incredible landscapes.

Vietnam’s history is complex, with layers of ancient traditions, colonial influences, and even the harsh scars of war, all of which are now evident in its architecture, cuisine, and day-to-day traditions.

The UNESCO World Heritage Site of Hoi An Ancient Town is one of the first local attractions to make it to any traveler’s itinerary, and for good reason – the well-preserved architecture that reflects all of the influences mentioned above serves as a testament to Vietnam’s value as a cultural and historical gem.

Those looking to experience yet another UNESCO-approved attraction will love the Imperial City of Hue, a walled enclosure that allows visitors to step back in time and witness the grandeur of the Nguyen Dynasty.

History buffs can also explore what the country’s many wars left behind in several visit-worthy sites, including the Cu Chi Tunnels and the War Remnants Museum in Ho Chi Minh City.

A Great-Value Destination

Not only is Vietnam one of the most astonishing, culturally-rich destinations you’ll ever come across, but it’s also conveniently one of the cheapest hotspots in all of Southeast Asia.

Let’s take Hanoi, for example, and compare it to other capitals of the region.

Consumer prices (excluding rent) in Hanoi are 11.1% lower than in Kuala Lumpur, 16.6% lower than in Manila, 28% lower than in Bangkok, and 69.1% lower than in Singapore.

Digital nomads looking to take advantage of Vietnam’s now-extended tourist visa will be delighted to learn that rent prices follow the same favorable trend and that if you’re to include housing costs in the above comparisons, the difference in consumer prices becomes even more significant.

Picture-Perfect Views

Don’t let the reasonable prices fool you; the views you’ll get in Vietnam are truly top-tier.

From the towering limestone karsts of Ha Long Bay to the terraced rice fields of Sapa, the country’s scenic wonders remain unrivaled.

Adventurous souls are drawn to the likes of Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park, the lush Mekong Delta, and the awe-inspiring Ban Gioc Waterfalls, all of which not only radiate a type of ethereal, pristine beauty but also offer abundant opportunities for adrenaline-pumping activities.

Whether that’s trekking in the northern mountains, cruising along the Mekong River, or diving in the crystal-clear waters off Phu Quoc Island, that’s up to you.

A Foodie’s Paradise

The only facet of Vietnamese culture that can compete with the mesmerizing sights is the local cuisine.

Dishes here are what you could only describe as a feast for the senses, boasting vibrant flavors, fresh ingredients, and that perfect balance between sweet, sour, salty, and umami.

Between the iconic pho and banh mi and lesser-known delicacies like bun cha and cao lau, Vietnam offers foodies the experience of a lifetime.

Legendary Hospitality

While all that’s been mentioned above is what draws visitors to Vietnam in the first place, what makes the experience truly stand out and keeps tourists coming back for more is undoubtedly the legendary warmth and hospitality of the locals.

No matter whether you’re exploring the chaotic streets of Hanoi or relaxing on the pristine beaches of Da Nang, you’re bound to come across (and feel mesmerized by) the genuine smiles and willingness to help from the Vietnamese people.

Maybe you have not actually BEEN to Vietnam!!! I am American and I live there. Vietnam is the trashiest country you will ever go to.! Of course, as with all countries, there are beautiful things here. Unfortunately, the truth is, this is a third world underdeveloped country, and it shows from the moment you arrive. Tourist sites are poorly developed and full of trash. I laughed when you talked about the legendary hospitality! Yes, there is cheap food and lots of cheap beer which are the principal reasons people come here. The over crowding of living situation AND tourist sites can never be understood until you come here.... Articles like your do not gell the truth about Vietnam.

@TikibTeader, Camboda is full of trash and litter too. Throw it in the weeds or water, leave it on the street, it becomes somebody (everybody) else's problem. Truly disgusting!

@TikibTeader, I went for a month in 2009 and it's still my favourite trip ever. Perhaps your misery in Vietnam is karma for what the awful yanks did there.
