This past year marked the official return of unrestricted travel.
Now that travelers are not only looking forward to their pre-planned trips but also catching up with several lost years of adventures (a concept the media is referring to as “revenge travel”), the demand for air travel is reaching all-time highs, and carriers are left with no choice but to expand their services.
That’s exactly what you can expect to happen in 2024.
North America’s six biggest airlines are all coming out with new routes and lines of operation that are bound to make international travel that much more convenient.
So, if you’re planning on flying overseas this upcoming year, below, you’ll find 24 new flights that might’ve been introduced just in time:
Mexico’s Biggest Hotspots Are Becoming More Accessible Than Ever
Since travel to many of Mexico’s biggest hotspots is experiencing an all-time high, most of the newly-launched routes focused on making the connection between the two North American countries a bit easier.
Tulum’s new airport, in particular, is set to be the destination of the majority of these flights, with American Airlines, United, Delta, and JetBlue all announcing routes to the iconic Mexican Caribbean hotspot from Charlotte, Chicago, Atlanta, and New York respectively.
Alaska Airlines has also recently launched a flight connecting Las Vegas to Cabo San Lucas, whereas Southwest, after a somewhat turbulent year, is trying to turn things around by introducing a route that links Orlando with Mexico’s biggest hotspot, Cancun.
Other Sunny Hotspots Getting New Direct Flights This Year
As more and more travelers seek to escape the frigid temperatures of the U.S. and fly off somewhere warm and sunny, airlines are making sure to provide plenty of options beyond (the admittedly stunning) Mexico.
Those looking to switch up things a bit this year might love a trip to Jamaica, either with American Airlines’ Miami to Ocho Rios route or the Denver-Montego Bay flight operated by United.
Alaska and JetBlue are both introducing routes set to connect Seattle and Los Angeles (respectively) to Nassau, though the carriers’ just-announced flights don’t end here.
JetBlue will also fly from New York to Belize City three times a week starting January 13th, adding yet another must-see spot along the Caribbean for U.S. travelers to explore.
Last but not least, Southwest, the world’s largest low-cost carrier, is launching two new flights, namely Orlando to Punta Cana and Orlando to San José, making a warm, beachy escape more accessible than ever.
These Cultural Destinations Will Also Become Easier To Visit
If a tropical getaway isn’t in your near travel plans, don’t worry – the giants of the North American airline market have thought of your needs, too.
Europe, in particular, will see an abundance of new direct flights this 2024, so that dreamy city break that’s probably been on your travel itinerary for years might not be that far-fetched after all.
American Airlines, the largest carrier in the U.S., is introducing three new flights to some of the Old Continent’s most coveted hotspots, namely Barcelona, Venice, and Naples.
The plane set to land on the Spanish hub will be taking off from Dallas-Fort Wroth, whereas the two Italian cities will be linked to Chicago and Philadelphia, respectively.
United has also announced several transatlantic flights, of which the most notable are probably the ones connecting New York/Newark to Faro and New York/Newark to Reykjavik, both of which allow travelers to enjoy the best of what Europe has to offer without the stress of overwhelming crowds.
Those who want to forgo the typical European getaway this winter might be more interested in United’s San Francisco to Bejing route instead.
Delta, the most punctual airline in North America, is similarly launching two new flights to Europe (New York to Munich and Atalanta to Zurich) and another one to Asia (Seattle to Taipei).
Alaska Airlines will give you the chance to explore the fascinating Guatemala City from Los Angeles, whereas JetBlue is connecting Boston and New York to two of Europe’s most fascinating hotspots – Dublin and Edinburgh.
