Phoenix, Arizona, is a gorgeous city in Arizona. Due to its location in the desert, however, it can get pretty hot. Whether you’re visiting Phoenix or live there, here’s 8 things to do that are perfect for staying cool and having fun this summer!
1. Odysea Aquarium
Here’s a great option for animal lovers! Odysea Aquarium is the largest aquarium in the state. Visitors can look forward to getting to meet countless creatures, including sharks, fish, and penguins. The aquarium also offers a wide variety of memorable exhibits and experiences, including touch pools and the opportunity to don a wetsuit and go diving (with an instructor’s oversight). Tickets are available online.
2. Lava River Cave
Here’s a great option for those looking for a memorable and unique day trip! Visiting Lava River Cave does require a 2-hour drive from the heart of Phoenix, but it’s more than worth the journey. You’ll get to explore an expansive, ancient lava tube. Lava River Cave stays pretty cool year-round, hovering around 42 degrees Fahrenheit, so you may even want to bring a jacket while visiting. Due to the cave’s popularity, a timed entry reservation system is being put into place at the beginning of August – reservations as well as information about the system is available online.
3. See If You Can Escape An Escape Room
If you enjoy solving puzzles or mysteries, this is a great option for you! Escape rooms can be a fun way for people of all ages to get out of the house and stay cool in the city. Whether you’re looking for a family outing or something fun to do with friends, there’s likely an escape room perfect for you. Puzzle Effect and Eludesions Escape Rooms are two escape rooms that offer a variety of experiences, with booking available for both online.
4. Bring Your Kids To Uptown Jungle Fun Park
Here’s a great option for those with children! Any parent knows that kids love playgrounds, but soaring temperatures in Phoenix might make it unsafe – or at the very least uncomfortable – to spend much time at them in the summer. Uptown Jungle Fun Park is a great solution to this problem! The indoor park features play structures, climbing walls, and countless more attractions that kids will love.
5. Check Out Phoenix Rock Gym
Adults aren’t out of luck if they’re looking to enjoy some indoor fun either! Visiting Phoenix Rock Gym is not only a great way to get in some healthy exercise, but also make fun memories. If you’re just looking to try out climbing for the first time, the gym offers day passes, gear rentals, and instruction. If you want to enjoy climbing on a regular basis, several membership options are also available.
6. Enjoy A Treat At Churn
One of the best ways to cool off in the summer is without a doubt enjoying some delicious ice cream, and Churn is the perfect place to do so at! Churn offers a variety of sweet, frozen treats, from ice cream cones to cherry cola floats, as well as candy and baked goods. Their full menu is available online.
7. Cool Off At AZ Ice Peoria
Ice skating is the perfect way to stay cool during the summer. Phoenix has several indoor ice rinks with public skate times. For those in the Peoria area, check out AZ ICE. Tickets for public skate sessions run under $15 per person with gear rental, making this a pretty budget-friendly way to spend a couple of hours as well.
8. Grab A Meal At Hanny’s
Hanny’s was originally built in the late 1940s as a department store. Since then it has since been turned into a restaurant and bar. This is a great option for those looking for a quirky dining experience. In addition to the unique history of the restaurant, there are also some eccentric decor and exhibits, which include a display of dolls in the basement.
