New York, New York
Home to the $1 slice (ok, perhaps not anymore) but also where spending $600 a plate isn’t unheard of, New York City is the ultimate foodie paradise.
From Chinatown to Little Italy and everywhere else, this is a place where you cannot walk one block without passing multiple restaurants.
OpenTable has said that it would take someone over 22 years to eat at every restaurant in New York City, and that’s not including all the city’s amazing food trucks. Being the melting pot that this city is, it’s no shock that the food scene is also a massive blend of different cuisines.
New Orleans, Louisiana
While New York might be famous for its worldwide medley of cuisines, the next entry on the list is more well-known for having a specific repertoire of foods that it does exceedingly well.
With its strong Cajun, soul food, and Creole influences, the cuisine in New Orleans is different from the food you will find in any other area of America.
From jambalaya, gumbo, beignets, and everything in between, it’s no wonder why The Big Easy has earned itself a reputation as a top foodie city worldwide.
San Francisco, California
San Francisco is both a multicultural and historic city, as well as being surrounded by amazing vineyards, all of which lead to its status as a top food destination in the United States.
With a Chinatown that’s older than New York’s, a seafront, and a strong farm-to-table movement, we have a lot to thank San Francisco for in regard to America’s food scene.
Home to some amazing sourdough bread, cioppino, and Ghiradelli Chocolate, one will not go hungry on a visit to San Francisco.
Los Angeles, California
What do the French dip sandwich, the oyster cocktail, and the hot fudge sundae have in common? They are all rumored to have originated from Los Angeles, along with many other American classics.
One thing about LA is that it’s clearly a city where people want to be seen, and what better place to do this than at whichever restaurants are trending at the moment?
With celebrity chefs, movie star haunts, and everything from food trucks to exclusive dining rooms, The City of Angels knows no bounds when it comes to food and drinks, so when you visit, don’t forget your appetite and your paparazzi shielding sunglasses.
Portland, Oregon
Did you know that 99% of America’s hazelnuts come from Portland?
In addition, the quirky and beloved Portland is known for its farmer’s markets, where the local Oregon produce shines. It doesn’t hurt Portland’s food and beverage scene that it’s surrounded by some fabulous wine regions and local breweries as well.
With huckleberries, marionberries, blueberries, and much more on offer, many restaurants take these local crops and elevate their dishes. Ice cream and doughnuts are popular here, as are seafood and vegan fare.
Some have called Portland America’s best pizza city, just don’t tell New York or Chicago!
To round off the top 10 best food cities in America we have:
- Chicago, Illinois
- Charleston, South Carolina
- Miami, Florida
- San Diego, California
- Austin, Texas
