With its British charm, historic intrigue, and good banter from the locals, London is a favorite vacation getaway for many (especially for Americans, thanks to its close proximity to the States and multitude of affordable flight options).

Though London isn’t typically known for its exceptionally warm weather and sunny days, with tourism ramping up, most visitors are looking for an escape from the wild crowds of the city (and when the city gets warm weather, it gets warm weather).

After analyzing hundreds of hashtags for the summer, travel service provider ‘Travel Bag’ analyzed Instagram and TikTok to discover where the most picturesque destination is for this year: and low and behold, it’s good ‘ole London town!

Greenwich

A very short train ride from the city center brings you to the quaint borough of Greenwich.

Home to the historic Cutty Sark, this area is known for its Maritime history. It’s so easy to stroll along the streets, listen to the locals chat, and venture through the cute stores for some souvenirs.

Greenwich Park is a vast space where locals enjoy the views with a drink or two. The Royal Observatory sits proudly on the hill and is the site of the Greenwich Meridian Line.

There’s no shortage of charming British pubs here. Pop by any for scenic views and a good chat.

Cambridge

Visitors are often surprised to find out that Cambridge is under an hour’s drive from London. Feeling like a completely different vibe altogether, this spot houses the historic building of  Cambridge University. Row a boat down the canals or admire the stunning architecture and cute homes here.

A student town through and through, it’s teeming with the buzzing atmosphere of students and locals alike. Of course, due to its population, there are plenty of things to do. From local pubs to trying traditional fish ‘n chips.

Cambridge is also not too far from Oxford (a little over an hour), so if you want to hit two historical college towns in one day, it’s very doable via the train system in the UK: or spend a few days in both!

Camden

Think hippy vibes and happy people. Camden is famed for its large flea markets and quirky streets. You’ll find all sorts here: eccentric souvenirs and flamboyant locals.

It’s easy to spend hours upon hours here admiring the vast array of street food trucks and antique stores. Though technically within London city limits, you’ll feel like you are somewhere else.

It’s also extremely popular for its nightlife scene. Popular clubs here include the Jazz Cafe and the Roundhouse: which are known for their star appearances. The inside and outside markets are almost reminiscent of bazaars in other countries, with winding areas and hundreds of unique goods on display.

Brighton

A seaside town where locals love to flock on warmer days, Brighton is known for its buzzing pier and beaches. Just under an hour to London, it’s the prime spot to escape the city heat and enjoy some of the UK’s cooler waters.

It’s a great spot for kids and families, as the pier has so much to do in terms of rides, games, and food options: there’s no shortage of bars too for the adults! Peep at the rows of colorful houses and take a ride on the Ferris wheel across from the beach.
