With end-of-year travel and festivities quickly coming to an end, people are looking forward to their next winter adventure.

If you’re one of the many travelers trying to escape the monotony and cold of these upcoming months by planning a sunny getaway right as the new year rolls in, I’ve got good news for you – airfare to four stunning, warm-weathered destinations has never been cheaper.

Skyscanner data shows that January and February are the best months to fly to Belize, Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, and Hawaii, with plane tickets experiencing notable discounts of up to 70%.

Belize

If you’re planning on flying to Belize this winter, you’ll be happy to learn that you’ve got plenty of wiggle room when it comes to scheduling your trip.

January and February share the title of the cheapest month of the year to fly from the U.S. to the Central American country, with airfare hovering around $305 for a return trip.

In comparison, if you traveled to Belize this past December, you know that the cheapest comparable ticket you could get this time of year was around $560, so just resisting the temptation to enjoy a Christmas or New Year’s getaway will reward you with upwards of $255 in savings.

What’s more, winter marks the beginning of the dry season in the country.

Temperatures range between 70°F and 80°F (21°C and 27°C), and precipitation is minimal, so now is the ultimate time to explore the dreamy beaches, lush rainforests, world-renowned Belize Barrier Reef, and fascinating Mayan ruins.

Puerto Rico

For those who’ve been waiting for the right time to experience the Caribbean island that just broke its all-time tourism record, January might just be it.

With airfare for a round-trip starting at a mere $80 this next month, Puerto Rico wins the title of the cheapest destination to get to on today’s list.

What’s more, the stunning island presents American travelers with the opportunity of a lifetime – getting to experience the best of what the Caribbean has to offer without needing a passport.

With all that in mind, it’s safe to say that those looking for an accessible, reasonably-priced holiday this winter can’t go wrong with Puerto Rico.

It’s worth noting though, that ticket prices don’t stay this low year-round.

Those planning to travel in July, for example, which happens to be peak season as far as airfare costs are concerned, will be looking at a $325 price tag for a comparable plane ticket, which, while not unreasonably expensive, it’s still not worth it considering you’ll get to enjoy the same sights and arguably better weather for a fraction of the price if you choose to travel now.

Costa Rica

Costa Rica isn’t only one of Central America’s dreamiest, most culturally rich countries but also one of the most accessible hotspots for digital nomads since it allows tourists to stay within its borders for up to 180 days.

No matter whether you’re planning a week-long vacation or trying to find your home base for the next few months, one thing’s for sure – this February is the best time to book those plane tickets to Costa Rica.

A round-trip will cost you a little over $123, which, when compared to the $412 you’d have to pay for the same ticket in July, marks a whopping 70% decrease.

Hawaii

Known for its breathtaking landscapes, iconic culture, and the warm embrace of the Aloha spirit, Hawaii is the type of destination that needs no introduction.

While there’s no doubt that the 50th U.S. state is a perennial favorite among travelers, the period between January and March offers a particularly favorable combination of sunny weather and reasonable prices.

Take airfare, for example.

A trip to Hawaii and back this January is expected to set you back around $111, which is roughly 71.52% less than what you’d pay for the same travel experience in December.

As you might imagine, this frees up a good chunk of your travel budget, money that would be better spent exploring the volcanic wonders of the Big Island, the mesmerizing greenery of Kauai, and the vibrant city life of Honolulu.
