As you turn the page on a fresh calendar year, it can be tempting to start dreaming of far-flung, exotic destinations in all corners of the world when thinking about your travel plans.

In a study of user searching habits, Airbnb has revealed a list of 24 top trending destinations around the world as we head into 2024 – and six of them are actually in North America.

Head to one of these six intriguing destinations, and you can enjoy being in one of the world’s hottest and trendiest travel spots without the jetlag:

Indianapolis, Indiana

Indianapolis might be best known for motor racing, but there’s much more to this underrated city than that.

A hub of culture, history, and tradition, ‘Indy’ has more monuments and museums than any American city outside of Washington D.C., with highlights including the Soldiers and Sailors Monument, the Indiana World War Memorial and Museum, and the American Legion Mall.

Home to one of the best-rated food halls in the United States, Indianapolis is a great city for foodies, with specialties of the city including pork tenderloins and piled-high reubens.

One reason why Indianapolis is trending for 2024 might be that it will experience a total solar eclipse on April 8 at about 3pm.

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Recently crowned as one of Lonely Planet’s Best Cities for 2024, Philadelphia is certainly having a moment in terms of its popularity among travelers.

Well-known as a hot destination for food lovers, ‘Philly’ is home to many sights that are iconic in American folklore.

From the ‘Rocky steps’ at the Museum of Art to the Liberty Bell at Independence Hall, there’s something for both the playful and the serious.

In 2024, the city will host both the annual Philadelphia Flower Show in March and WrestleMania 40 in April, showcasing just how eclectic a place it is.

This region of Colorado is home to natural wonders such as Garden of the Gods Park and Pikes Peak – perfect for hikers, photographers, or those who just love spending time in the great outdoors.

Highlight events happening here in 2024 include the Pikes Peak Pride Fest in June, Rocky Mountain State Games in July, La Vida in August, and Arts Month in October.

Mexico City, Mexico

This Mexican metropolis is just as great a place to stay for a week or two as it is for a long weekend.

Easy to get to for many Americans thanks to an extensive schedule of flights, Mexico City is a place where you can indulge in whatever your heart desires.

You’ll find great nightlife, fantastic food, affordable accommodation, and generally pleasant weather throughout the year.

Try catching a trajinera (gondola) on the Xochimilco Canals to get an alternative view of this city.

Nassau, The Bahamas

The Bahamas recently smashed its all-time tourism record, so it’s not really a surprise it has appeared on a top trending travel list.

Nassau is often considered the gateway to this beautiful Caribbean paradise thanks to its excellent international airport and bustling harbor.

Nassau offers a unique blend between the convenience of developed urban life with the relaxing remoteness of a deserted island – you can experience both quite easily here.

Choose from countless luxury accommodations and take your time exploring the history and nature of this beautiful spot.
